Abstract

All pool operators whether in recreational or healthcare settings should be aware of the requirement to carry out a risk assessment to ensure all risks of Legionnaires’ disease and those resulting from faecal contamination are adequately managed.

However in pools in both recreational and healthcare settings,  harm from other potential harmful hazards are often not considered and  / or effectively managed .  The pool and the surrounding environment can be the source of infections other than legionellosis and other harm from hazards of a chemical and physical nature.  To ensure that pool and the pool environment do not cause harm,  identification of all hazards and effective controls must be put in place based on effective risk assessments.   Failures identified in hygiene audits will be highlighted as learning points, including how safe is your plant room and chemical storage areas? how good are your cleaning regimes? do you take account of pool user susceptibility to infection, how effective is your governance, management, surveillance and communication.

This webinar will highlight why it is important to follow the WSP approach and consider all potential hazards which pose a risk to staff, visitors and users. It will include an overview of the hazards to be considered in risk assessments and how to manage the risks.
